Superbolt® Application:

Scrap Metal Shredder

Problem:

Due to the constant shocks and load variations on the rotor, and rotor bearings of this large shredder, conventional tightening methods proved to be inadequate, causing unstable bearing blocks.

Frequent re-alignment and adjustments were required to keep the machine running properly.

Solution:

Replacement of hex nuts with Superbolt® MT-250-12/w Torquenuts provided accurate, permanent bolt preload. Only 233 Ft. Lb. of torque on the jackbolts created over 285,000 Lbs. of clamping force. Vibrations and shock loads are absorbed by the torquenut, helping to keep bolt tension constant, and greatly improving reliability.
