Superbolt® Application:

D-R Compressor; Connecting Rod Nuts

Problem:

Installation and removal of connecting rod nuts on this compressor were difficult because of the high torque requirements with only limited access for tools. Traditional methods of snipes and hammer wrenching proved inaccurate, time consuming and unsafe.

Solution:

Original nuts were replaced with Superbolt ‘MT’ style torquenuts, allowing mechanics to install both top & bottom nuts by hand. Equivalent to 2200 ft. lb. of hexnut torque was easily achieved on these 1-3/4”-12TPI bolts using a 3/8” torque-wrench set at only 49 ft. lb. An accurate preload was achieved quickly with no damage to the threads and no chance of the workers being injured.
